Favorite Restaurants

Palmetto Dunes is proud to boast the North Gate beach access deck, The Dunes House, now has an oceanfront restaurant open to Palmetto Dunes guests. The menu includes salads, shrimp appetizers by the pound, hamburgers & hotdogs, beer, soft drinks, and even gatorade for the thirsty on the beach.
Within walking distance from our villa, Palmetto Dunes has a wonderful steak and seafood restaurant/wine bar inside the resort called Alexanders. Hilton Head Reader's magazine voted it the best steak and dessert menu restaurant on the island. The restaurant sits on a picturesque lagoon, and reservations are recommended, but you can walk up if you don't mind the wait. If it is not too hot, sit on the deck, to enjoy the beauty of the lagoon view. Choose from over 100 hand selected wines to compliment seafood or hand trimmed steaks.
Our most recent favorite seafood restaurant on the island has become Marleys Island Grille, which is in the same shopping center as the Harris Teeter & the movie theatre. The menu looks pricey at first glance, but you can split an entree for a small fee, and it makes it more affordable. The restaurant has a bar, and is decorated with an island theme for great ambience. It is not a "calabash" carolina fried seafood style of restaurant, but if you want fried seafood, they have it. We recommend Marley's crab cakes if you want to splurge, as they are out of this world. If you are like me and are allergic to shellfish, the grilled salmon was also fabulous. I ordered it as a salad over the Wood Grilled Heart of Romaine, and it was unbelievable. I had never had wood grilled lettuce, and it was amazingly delicious with their citrus caesar chile lime dressing.
Another new restaurant on the island is The Grumpy Grouper. This restaurant is very small, and quaint, with checkered tablecloths. It is on Pope Avenue across from Wild Wings, and is not much to look at, but it has the best grouper in town. Go early to beat the crowd, as there will be one!
If you have been visiting HHI for years, (20 or more,) you will remember that the Crazy Crab on 278 as one of the best restaurants on the island....known for it's fried seafood & crab legs. The restaurant has a beautiful water view for family picture, taken on the deck. If you haven't heard, their kitchen burned down a few years ago. They did a total remodel and enlarged the place. It is not a "mom & pop" joint anymore. It looks like a restaurant you would find on Barefoot Landing in Mrytle Beach. This is the place to go for a good crab legs/ fried seafood platter.
